Finding the right Cable Certifier can be quite time intensive. There are many options out there and it can get confusing. Today I will be talking about the Ideal Industries 33-993 LanTEK II series Cable Certifier. This particular model is the 1 GHz bandwidth version which is the top end of their offerings (the other models being 350 and 500 MHz respectively). The LanTEK II series of Cable Certifiers have a few neat features that differentiate itself from the pack.

They use universal test adapters that allow patch cables to be used in place of costly permanent link adapters. This is a nice benefit as most permanent link adapters need to be replaced due to the worn or damaged cables themselves and not a problem with the adapter. This is a great money saver that allows you to spend more time in the field using your instrument instead of waiting for your new adapters to arrive.

Another great feature on the LanTEK II is the DualMODE function that allows two different standards to be used simultaneously when certifying cabling. For example, one could certify a cable on both Category 6 permanent link and channel link in one test.

The Ideal 33-993 LanTEK II Series Cable Certfier is equipped with a smart lithium battery that allows for up to 18 hours of use. That is a tremendous length of time that allows you to take lots of tests. Luckily, the LanTEK II has a large storage capacity of roughly 1700 Cat 6 tests (including graphs). If the internal memory does ever get full on you, it is as simple as dumping the data onto a flash drive.
