Today we’re going to talk about a tool that, as far as I know, has no current competition or comparable product on the market – the Fluke VT02. While it has its limitations, it is certainly one of the best and most cost-effective choices for certain applications.
Basically how this unit works is that it provides some of the basic features of a thermal imager with fusion capability combined with a high end IR thermometer. It does not have the resolution or refresh rate of a thermal imaging camera, but compensates with its blending of visual images and thermal readings, which can cost up to $3,000 to get in the lower end thermal cameras. Now these are not super high quality thermal images but you can snap pictures and save them to an SD card. I think the Fluke VT02 is best suited for electrical and building applications so you can see the objects you’re at which you are looking (see photo to the right of a breaker panel).
So while these images are not designed for professional reporting, the VT02 makes it easy to pinpoint problem areas - as opposed to scanning an electrical device with a single point IR thermometer. So essentially imagine all the applications you use an IR thermometer for but now you can take hundreds and hundreds of measurements at once and easily spot your trouble areas.
