Today I will be reviewing AEMC’s model 1030 500V Digital Analog Megohmmeter. This unit like other megohmmeters is used to test the quality of insulation as well as continuity of an electrical circuit to detect degrading insulation problems or incorrect circuit connections in electrical equipment. It is battery powered incorporating the latest technology as well as meeting the latest international standards for measuring and testing continuity and insulation resistance.

Once the test leads are connected to the AEMC 1030 500V Digital Analog Megohmmeter and then connected to the test circuit or equipment, the meter goes to work calculating and displaying the values of resistance in the insulation being tested. I really like the visible and audible warning the meter gives and, as a nice safety feature, it disables insulation testing when a voltage of 25 volts or greater is detected.

This versatile meter is auto-ranging and has two voltage safety check ranges of 250 and 500 volts with the ability to measure insulation resistance up to 2,000 megohms. The AEMC 1030 is a valuable tool when it comes to checking the condition and safety of motor windings, switchgear, insulated equipment, and other electrical installations.

I like the continuity testing feature which checks to 20 ohms and buzzes when continuity is confirmed. Worker safety is important so once the test button is released the meter discharges any residual voltage from the circuit being tested.

The display on this meter is well designed. The AEMC 1030 not only  measures both AC and DC voltages up to 600V, but automatically displays them on the large, easy-to-read, 4000 count LCD screen with blue backlight. It gives both a digital readout as well as an analog bar graph. Another great feature is an additional digital display providing alarm set points and elapsed test time.

If you only need to do testing up to 600 volts, there is no need to carry around a meter in a box weighing over 10 lbs. The AEMC 1030 500V Digital Analog Megohmmeter can comfortably fit in your hand whether you are in the shop or out in the field.

Whatever your tasks are, whether it’s testing motor or transformer insulation resistance, running continuity checks on commercial wiring installations, or measuring voltages up to 600V, this one unit can handle the job.
