UEi C85 Combustion Analyzer with Advanced Electro Optical CO2 Sensor Review

Updated November 2022.

UEi C85 Long Life Combustion Analyzer has been discontinued.

UEi C 85 Combustion AnalyzerHello all. Heating season is upon us or is fast approaching for West Coast folks. In this spirit we are going to have a look at the UEi C85 Combustion Analyzer which features all the normal functionality of a combustion analyzer with a few interesting advantages which give it a leg up on the competition.

Let’s take a small detour into basic combustion analysis principles and talk about some advantages of UEi technology. Basically, combustion quality is determined in a traditional analyzer by measuring oxygen concentrations in flue gas and then comparing that value against a known ideal value produced by the fuel you are using. The problem that comes up with respect to oxygen sensors is that fresh air is over 20% percent oxygen and so in essence an oxygen sensor that takes measurements via a chemical reaction is always “on”. UEi has come up the idea of using an infrared CO2 sensor in the C85 addition to the traditional CO sensor and using these values to calculate the O2 value. In very simple terms, your sensors last much, much longer, are warranted for 5 years and you still get all the same readings you would from a traditional style sensor configuration. This translates to a drastically reduced cost of ownership over the life of the C85 – in some cases a reduction of half versus competitors.

The meter itself is designed with a DMM style selector for ease of use, features a magnetic boot for hands-free use, and is compatible with an optional IR printer for instant on-the-job reporting. All this comes packaged in a hard shell case for easy transportation.

Any thoughts on this new sensor layout and the increased longevity it provides?

See you next time.
